June- week 3
So monday was the end of our canoe trip :( which meant more goodbyes...
Josh Hurd, Meagan, Vanessa and I headed out pretty early with Satan who dropped us in Třebič to catch a train. Train was fun.. saying goodbye to meagan and josh wasnt..
Most of the week was dedicated to getting better actually.. monday ended with rest, tuesday I did some packing and later went to Víteks with Hanka, Wednesday I went for coffee with Vanessa at or favorite spot one last time, Thursday I hung out with Vítek for a bit and later made a quick trip to the mall (his choice, I was surprised until I relised that we were going to look at sports equipment. lol.. but we had a great time :) Oh and I bought bang!! its the card game that I played a bunch in the Alps that was pretty much amazing!!), Friday I went out to stodolní with Vanessa and two of her friends and later helped her pack and kept her company on her last night in the country. Long over run sentence... but it covers the entire week.. We didnt have school this past week so the mornings were quite relaxing
In the wee hours of saturday, I accopanied Vanessa and her family to the airport for the big send off (crazy to think mine is coming soon),everything went smoothly and she has since landed safely and having a jolly ol´time at home.
Since i was sick and didnt have any sleep on Friday night nor much on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday I was on a bit of house arrest. Sleep, tea and soup. Sunday night i was showing signs of recovery and went out with Vítek, Adam and Eva, Mírek and Barča. We went out to a čajovna for some tea and a game of bang with vodarna. Vítek, Adam and I went out after the čajovna to a local spot and did some catching up aswell. Always nice staying in the loop.
IT HAS BEEN RAINING ALL WEEK!!!!! not just a drizzle but a full on its-raining-its-pouring sort of thing.. its terrible! Will not miss this weather. hope its nice and sunny when i get home :)
I gotta go, im just on my way out.. but see you in 9 days!!!
crazy eh?!

June week 2
So week two :)
Lately I´ve been making a special effort to wake up every morning with a smile on my face and positivity in my mind, and its been working fantasticly.
Monday I started the day with no plans and ended up chatting with friends I havent seen in ages and going for crepes and coffee with Vanessa and Josh. OH and i almost forgot Vítek and I went to grandmas for a visit. :) YAY! Started off as a sunny day and stayed glorious throughout! Thank you positivity!
Tuesday was a nice relaxing day. School in the morning, cooking in the afternoon, documentaries in the evening and a quick stop at the shop to pick up a few things for the thursday afternoon get-together planned with Josh and Vanessa. Nice, sunny, relaxing day :)
Wednesday was a bit of a slow day. The weather was a little wet and I was packing all day. downer... Not for home, though it was a good start, but Im moving up stairs and living in my host sisters room (shes currently in the states on exchange) since our grandparents are moving in next week (they will live here while the richtars are on their month long vacation in the states) and they will be staying in what is currently my room. Anyway.. I had wednesday to move all my stuff and in the end it all went smoothly. Later, Josh and I headed to our last Rotary meeting together. It was actually quite nice. We gave short presentation (improv, since we werent aware that we were to do one.. kind of hindered the quality, but they loved hearing our attempt) and said our thank yous to everyone. Then I headed home to start packing for our canoe trip.
Thursday was great!!!! After school I whipped up a fruit flan for Vítek ( as an early happy name day present, since I´ll be on the canoe trip for ´his´ day) then Josh and Vanessa came over for our Tye Dyeing party!!! YAY! it was soo much fun. Ive never tye dyed befoe and surely will again :) We each dyed a shirt and they all turned out super!! Later, sporting my new tye dye shirt I went to Víteks to give him the flan, show him my shirt and grab a cup of tea. I love our chats :) Great day!!!
Friday Vanessa and I head off on the canoe trip which was super exciting, but had to leave josh behind. He´s flying home on Saturday so today were our final goodbyes. Originally we were going to have the big goodbye on thursday, but none of us were ready, so Ness and I planned to take a later train and meet up with josh for an hour today. It was hard to say goodbye to Josh. Hes like a little brother to me, we dont always see eye to eye but Ive spent so much time with him, we´ve had so many heart to hearts.. and I respect him so much.. Im going to try next year to keep better contact with people for sure... Im known to not be very good at it, as im sure you can notice by this blogs frequency... but im going to work on it. So Vanessa and I headed off on our 5 hr train ride in hopes to find a happier front.. so our 5hr turned into a 7.5 hr... we kinda hopped on the wrong train.. but anyway we got there alright. it was great getting to see everyone again.
Saturday was fantastic! Oh my goodness.. so rachel and I were boat partners and we rocked the river let me tell you. It was soo cute, she knows so many disney songs it made for a musical journey :) The weather was absolutely perfect, we could not have asked for a nicer day and the nature... to die for .. absolutely gorgeous. WOW. hahaha and there were some little rapids along the way which really picked things up. im really happy that i went :)
Sunday man was I sore on sunday... but we were all so excited to get back in the boats. Another glorious day on the Sázava. We were all a little bit better about keeping hydrated and applying the spf since we felt the heat so much the day before, and its a good thing too since it was toasty. hahahaha omg there was this raccoon at our lunch stop, it was an attraction in a cage, soo sad, but he had the biggest buddah belly ive ever seen! Like oh my goodness.. it was rediculous. But canoeing was fantastic yet again. I didnt realise how much i missed padling. I really love being out on the water, its an incredible feeling. I think i will definitely go back to it once back home. So lots of fun :) It was fantastic having more than one night with everyone, we had tons of fun and the memories are priceless.
So im one week closer to my flight home and i dont really know how i feel about it all. On one hand im ready to see my friends and family and have summer in penticton nut on the other hand, ive really come to love my town and my friends, both exchangees and czechs... and i dont want to leave them behind.. I guess its all part of the process and with each goodbye reality is starting to hit.. whether im ready for it or not. All i know is that this year has been great, im forever thankful for everyone who ahs been a part of it and helped it come to be. Thanks

June- week 1
So I figured this being my last month and all that I should keep you all updated a little better than i have been in the past few months, so im going back to weekly posts (hopefully) and i think iˇll post one for my first week back just to summarise how the switch back to home life is going. But anyways.. getting back to whats is up:
The month started in Česky Krumlov as all of us exchange students were saying the first of our many goodbyes.. :( and all hopping on our various trains to head home.. all a little disgruntled that the proposed canoe trip was canceled due to un favorable weather conditions.. On a happier note we devised a plan to meet in telč two days later !!
So Vanessa and I, determined to get a little more travel in since the trip was canceled, hopped on the bus with Kayla and Karmin destined for Česky Budijovice, a town neither of us had seen very much of. though all of us were a little tired after the previous nights "wakefest" we managed to pull ourselves together and head out for a bite to eat. We headed out with hopes of indian and after being crushed by the closed sign, found a fantastic pizza place that had falafel!!!!! YUMMY! Literally one of the cheapest things on the menu was a falafel wrap with lettuce and tzatsiki (can´t spell). So amazing!! The best part.. it was literally like a foot long! OMG! i was soo hungry and i chomped my way through most of it :) After our bellies were full we headed back to their place (they are currently living with that same family) and chatted till bed.... which was around 6pm.. :) Like I said we were tired.. and we didnt open our sleepy eyes till 9 the next morning ... pretty solid sleep if I do say so myself. Ness and I grabbed our huge bags headed to the grocery store for some breaky and munchies for the train then made our way home..
.. I got home prety late, around 9pm, and started organising some university stuffs (gosh its fast approaching)... I crashed pretty late, not realising how long organising a timetable would take.. then woke up at 4:30 the next morning to hop on yet another train and header to Telč.
Telč was nice. It´s been nice to be able to say goodbye to everyone in steps.. and only a few at a time. Though it makes the whole final goodbye seem kinda sureal. In telč we kinda just wandered for a bit, we walked through the castle gardens, ate some great pizza, had some yummy ice cream and ended our eatery hopping with a trip to a cafe later making our way to the bus station for a few more goodbyes.
Then came a day of rest!! Finally, after all of our travels, which have been fantastic, comes a day soley dedicated to rest and recovery... I forgot to mention I´ve been sick with yet another cold (i believe this is no. 8 this year!!), for the past week. So My host parents so no travels, no school, and no leaving the couch in the living room for the day.. which was fine by me :)
I MISS SCHOOL!!! another downer to all of the rotary events lately is that I havent been to schoool very much and I miss my friends!! So thursday I went to school to chill with everyone. It worked out great since it was the schools sports day!! I wasnt able to participate since I wasnt there for sign up and technically im not a registered student but I was able to cheer my little heart out. 7A all the way!! I went to school on friday too, YAY! and despite all the tests they wrote, it was great to be there.
So back to another weekend (they come soo fast now adays!) and it´s josh´s going away party. Vítek and I headed out with josh and some of his friends for a night out on the town and showed him a good time :) though it was all a bit sad.. he leaves on the 13th, its getting close. But we all had a good time.. Saturday was a pretty chill day and the weather was kinda wet so all the better to stay indoors. I mainly worked on my university timetable, though I did make time for a few emails and a documentary :) LOVE them. Lastly, Sunday way Vanessas going away party... it was mainly rotarians, who were tons of fun, and Josh, Ness and I. Got home around 8 and was happy to see that Vítek had popped over for a visit. After Vítek peaced, Mark and I kept chatting, hahaha about our futures, jobs and university actually :) .. theres been a lot of that lately.. anyway.. then the Richtars and I had to say our goodbyes as Mark hopped on his train to prague, the start of what was to be a very long journey home.. not looking forward to the travel time :(
So that was my week. I will try and keep you posted :)

MAY
May has been BUSY.. first week was moms visit, then it headed into crazy :) which was tons of fun. The day my mom went home, Vítek and I hopped on a train back to ours, later i met up with a few friends and we went to Myalis, a huge multi school party/concert. FANTASTIC! The next day I met up with Jarka and Vanessa for a coffee and some lunch, later headed out with vanessa for some window shopping, i just made it home when i got the invite for a spot of tea with Jarka, Vítek, Hanka and Ria. OF COURSE! SO perfect day :) Next day was my host cousins 18th bday, so it was a family lunch, I later discovered online documentaries!! YAY!! Havent slept as much since I swear :) I love them, they help me feel better connected with the world around and make me think.. and since school here is not really working my mind it feels fantastic to think through some.
I also have started to make fruit flans since the fruit season is apon us :) yummy!! Host bro hosted a big neighborhood bonfire one night, super way to meet some of the many neighbors i didnt even know we had. Awesome. haha and then Mark, the canadian that was here last year came to town. He is here for a month long visit and is living with us for the majority of it, so thats been a lot of fun. I also headed out on a school trip for a few days.
I was a little nervous actually, i went with a few class' that I knew no one from and we were going hiking.. not one of my known talents :) But it turned out so perfect. Really!! We hiked during the day up in Liberec, then had bonfires and random field sports in the evenings. On our last day instead of hiking we went to this huge entertainment park in liberec. We were in the IQ park (kinda like science world) for a bit then we all split up and did wat we wanted.. the had LASER TAG! So obviously i grabbed a group and we ran to! soo much fun.. and not that im bragging..but i came 2nd and 3rd :) (we played twice) hahahaha out of the 5 of us! lol.. and it was the first time they had ever played.. haha, but not important :) SO MUCH FUN
I came home and it was Verčas birthday party the next day, we had a gals get together at her place with way to much food and a toast.
I met up with ono of the neighbors that i was introduced to at the bonfire and hung out with him one day and found out he was in scottland working for two months picking strawberries (thats a lot of strawberries!!) but the point is.. like a month after he left that farm, officials came in and busted the farms owner for work conditions that didnt quite meet legal standard.. and it made front page news there... he showed me the paper (he kept a copy) and his dirty laundry is literally airing on its cover ...
Allie, a rotary exchange student staying on the othe other side of CzR came for a few day visit beofre her Vanessa and I went to our Rotary weekend in Košice (Slovakia). It was nice, we went to a ballet and a classical music concert which were beautiful, and did a presentation to all the rotary members at the Hilton (scary), but it was the last time we were able to hang out with the Slovak students before we all head our own ways :( its kinda silly actually for our districts to still be connected, i mean the countries are seperate in every other way.. and we only get to see them twice in our exchange.. any way i think its silly.. but it was a teary goodbye :( it was sad to see them go. then it was just a hop skip and a jump till our second rotary weekend in Česky Krumlov paired with the inbound+rotex canoe trip. That one was a bit more stressful.
We had to prepare a speech, in czech, about ourselves, where we were from, a goal we acomplished and a word of advicee... oy. my czech isnt great, but with the help of friends I got it done no problem.. In the end it was no big deal, we only had to present our little speech infront of the outbounds. It was our first time meeting them, so that was fantastic! There are some really great ones getting shipped out thats for sure. Theres a cutie coming to our ditrict, down in Olivia Holmes' town. Shucks.... haha and there the other guy going to canada from CzR is headed to Yellowknife... YELLOWKNIFE!!! i had no idea they did exchanges up there.. i hope all goes well for him, i gave him my number and my facebook and told him to contact me if he had any questions... but honestly..... can you say cold! So we toured the town and and hung out the majority of the time, then we boogied down one night to tunes put together by none other than your star exchange student, moi :) hahaha my first time dj-ing was a grand success if i do say so myself :) but after our night of gettin jiggy with it came the bad news.. due to rotten weather the canoe trip was a no go :(
We were all really upset, since it was to be our last time together before the big spit.. so we stayed up all night talking and trying to avoid thinking about goodbyes. On our last day, we organised our own get together in a little town that none of us had been to yet that was smack dab in the middle of all of us, so our goodbyes werent quite so sorrowful. There were still a few tears and the weekend (and the month) came to a close with train rides home....
.. for most..
And then it was June

MOM :)
K so my mom flew over for a visit on the 22 and after our own little euro trip headed home on back penticton way on May 6th. What a lovely visit. It started out with a hollywood worthy airport greeting involving the essentials: a sign, tears, running towards eachother, dropping the bags, ending in embrace and ended with tears and a quick goodbye. The middle was where it got good. We had a great time traveling together (despite me stressin over the details...) as well as just chilling out cuddling into a few movies.
The TRAVELING, we stopped in Bratislava, Budapest, and Prague (on the last we were accompanied by a friend of mine, Vítek) for a few days each. Just long enough visit the tourist hot spots and discover a few places of our own. Some of the highlights included our fine dining dinner on the top of New Bridge in Bratsilava, visiting the ZOO in Budapest, hoofing it up the 299 steps for the perfect view in Prague and having a mother daughter get together with a few friends and their mommies back home in Ostrava.
The CHILLING: though we did some traveling it was nice to have some down time. firstly because I was able to show my mom my town, friends and families and secondly because downtime was definitely needed between coming home from the Brat+Buda trip and heading out for Prague. One of moms first evening my host family and I hosted a family dinner with all of my host familes and mom, so perfect. I loved being able to show my mom some of the people ive come to love here and vice versa :) I played tour guide for a few days as well, showing my mom the "it" spots in ostrava and a few of the places I like to go exploring in the near forests.
I think above all I liked being able to say goodnight knowing that the next morning I would wake up knowing she would be here with me.
So this leads us into may..
PS. I just want to put in a little love note to my grandparents. I love you very very much and I cant wait to see you and give you hugs when I get back. Stay strong Grandma. I love you.

April
So there was a lot of celebrating this month :)
Firstly- the month started out with Kamíls birthday (Víteks dad, my second host dad), he turned the big 40. As the day of celebrating came to a close Vítek and I were put in charge of escorting a not so sober grandpa back home to grandma. It was soo funny, he didnt want to go back home and face his wife in his current condition so he wanted to go to the pub.. but he knew that the pub would worsen his condition.. the dilema. SO not knowing where he wanted to go Vítek circled the house for a while before finally dropping him off at home. Priceless :)
Secondly- there was a huge long weekend celebrating easter. The infamous Czech easter...
The traditions lived up to the hype to say the least. Monday 13th 8am it started.
I woke to the whisper s of my host dad and anonymous voices outside my door.. then ambush.. the door burst open and the anonymous whisperers turn out to be 3 little neighbor boys and a random mid 20, that i assume is a neighbor as well, armed withbottles of water, the traditional easter slapsticks (woven willow branches adorned with colourful ribbons) and worst of all collogne.
Slightly confused i run... round and round my room being chased by the sticks and splashing liquids, till i was informed that I was supposed to take it thankfully (since this tradition is supposed to help the women stay furtile). So they sing their song, splash their water, slap their sticks, and spray their cologne which I then reward and thank them for by giving them chocolates, coloured eggs and (to the older ones mainly) shots.
this continues till noon.
haha it was tons of fun actually.. despite the early wake up... I met a bunch of new neighbors and really, who doesnt enjoy a water fight :)
Of course thats not all that went down over the break:
- there was celbrating with classmates
- a pizza night with Josh and Vanessa
- swimming with Vítek and Jindra
- a trip to a hillside rollercoaster with the family
- baking 101 with Josh
and I added a few things to my Rotary jacket
:)
A bit of non celebrating- First day back to school I rolled my ankle. I have never been known as the most graceful thing so in my eyes it was bound to happen eventually.. it was gym class after all
Back to celebrating- Later Adam gave me a ring saying that Michal was having a bbq with some friends. So I headed over for a bit.
Thursday was picture day.. wedenesday I fell asleep in the sun. Result- half my face was burnt... result of the result- seriously great picture for my class to remember me by :)
Acutally the picture isnt soo bad and im glad i have it to aid in putting a face to a name many years down the road
That weekend I helped out at a Junior Red Cross training excercise. I played a victim.
SOO COOL!! We (the victims) all picked an injury, then the makeup crew got their buckets of fake blood and molding putty and made us look the part. We all took our places in the bus/car/bike collision scene and waited for the whistle to blow. At its sound our saviours rushed over the bridge (that was eperating where we were getting ready from where they were hiding out.. inorder to keep the element of surprise)
I was put on the bus as a screamer who was worried for her friend and nauseated by the sight of blood. I had a bleeding nose. I survived the grand collision and my bleeding nose was delt with, though there were two casualties. One was planned, the other was the result of an over zealous actor :)
After we headed up to a lodge in the mountains where the crew was staying and a few of the leaders started brewing a new disaster for the group to save us from. I was a screamer again, which was fun since im not much of a screamer in reality, but this time I was in the forest stranded in the dark with a broken pelvis. The call was made and the trainees filed out adorned with headlamps, all surprised that there was another drill.
They saved me :) YAY! though this time it was a bit more complicated than my previous bleeding nose. By the time the drill was over it was pretty late, so we headed back to the lodge and celebrated a job well done by all and crashed the night.
The day before the Red Cross camp I was a bit sick, after the camp I was a lot sick. So I came back bed bound and under a sort of house arrest to ensure a speedy recovery. Which worked like a charm.
the 22nd- Wednesday there was no school, perfect weather, and my first day out in four. Vanessa and I headed out for a picnic by the river. lovely.
A bit more celebrating-
*** MY MOM ARRIVED FOR HER VISIT ON WEDNESDAY***
6 pm mom landed at the ostrava airport.. there were a few tears and the best hug Ive had in 8 months... mom!!!!!

March...
So actually dont remember how this lovely month of showers started off. I did have a day planner which came in handy when writing my blogs but that (as well as its replacement) has since disappeared :( So Im going to dive into this months blog on the 15th: moving day.
So i was living with Adams family, the Fialas, who are absolutely fantastic. I really had a great time living with them, they showed me a whole different way of Czech life, which was nice to see and experience. Despite my initial thoughts on going back to a family that i had already lived with, i actually was getting more and more excited as moving day approached. The thought of being somewhere that was familiar and knowing what to expect was a relief that i hadnt realised that i wanted. So being here, with the Richtars, for the past little while has been just swell.
My second night here, I was all hunkered down and getting ready for bed, my host dad, Dušan, comes rushing in the house yelling "Come get ready. Get your shoes on!". So not having a clue what on earth he was talkingbaout, I did. So we all hop in the car and drive downtown to the big Vitkovice Hockey rink. The boys and I run out of the car and I turn to see Svetlana dive away. Then I see the LORDI posters. Lordi is a Finnish Monster Metal group that won a sort of euro idol competition. Monster Metel. So breifly thinking about the wide variety of folk music i currently listen to, I jumped in line to get myself a wristband :) It was actually incredible!! I have yet to turn in to any sort of metal head, but it was tons of fun, and I met a few friends from my class who were there. Major plus!
Thát weekend, i forgot to mention that the concert was on a tuesday night... made for an interesting wednesday morning, Veronika had a gals night out. We were going to start it the healthy way and make an attempt ( she is actually super fit pro, I was going to attempt) at a spinning class, but tons of people dropped out last minute so the class got cancelled. Shucks. So we made our way to the movie theatre.. We picked out "Unborn" as the must see for the evening. HAhaha nothing like two gals heading out to a horror flick togther. We grabbed a coffe and had a good gal talk before it started, it was really nice to catch up.. then i seriously got freaked during the movie. I love a good horror, something that really screws with your mind, I think its healthy to have a good fright once in a while and to be honest it wasnt even that great of a show, but its been a while and i was freaked :) Money well spent. So as I was cowering, I look over and there is Verča, totally chill pointing out the films bad graphics.. priceless.
hmmm .. i remember that weekend being a busy one but i cant seem to put a fingure on what exactly went down. ...

... o well im sure i had a good time :)
A couple of gals got together and had a huge 18th bash a little later in the month wich was tons of fun :) and that pretty much summarizes the month.
i think the biggest change was the weather. The month started with a fresh foot of snow and ended with sunny days... shorts worthy days!!! the weather has had a huge impact on my attitude too. I was having a good time with friends and everything before but i was honestly done with the snow and the cold. The sun has done wonders! I have definitely discovered that im solar powered, i had no idea how much of an impact it really had until it returned.
YAY!!!
OH and i talked to my club and evverything is a go for moms visit at the end of next month!!

February
*** continued***
So as I said before, on the first of February, I got sick. Lovely way to start off a month if I do say so myself.
After a monday visit to the doctor, it was determined that I had Tonsillitis. From Sunday to Friday (wednesday being my bday) I was on sick leave from school, the rotary meeting of the week an dall other activities that required me to leave the house.. Which in the end was not too bad, besides being unbelievably boring, the weather was simply atrocious! So all filled up on meds and stuck in bed, I managed to put quite a dent in the reading that I wanted to do, the positive look at the week.
Being the adorable families that they are, my three host families came together for a bday dinner on wednesday as well as a Rotary member bringing birthday and get well wishs. It was a lovely evening despite being curled up on the couch in big poofy pjs and warm blankets with a steeping cup of tea in hand.. not what I had pictured for my nineteenth bday. hah but fantastic :)
I had to get better pronto, Friday night Josh (an exchange student from Oloumoc from New York) came for a visit. Adam and I showed him our little Krasne Pole that evening and then I took Josh on the grand tour of Ostrava Saturday afternoon before we headed over to Vanessas to get reading for the Rotary Ball being held. We crowded into Vanessas place, which is currently and conveniently downtown, and through a cloud of hairspray, assorted eyeshadows and perfumes, we emerged ready for the ball.
Despite what are expectations and rumurs had led us to believe, the evening was bit of a flop as far as us exchangees were concerned. It was gorgeous, there was great entertainment, and scrumptious looking food, but we were given a table in a storage room a hall away from the party and asked to stick around do that if they needed help they would know where to find us.. I dont mind helping out of course.. its just not what we were expecting.. We stuck it out for a few hours keeping a younger assistant, who had been roped into guarding the key to the entertainments dressing room, company, then asked politely if we were needed before heading out to show Josh some Ostrava nightlife.
** we also held a moment of silence to honour the students in Oregon. Josh put together a group on Facebook to announce the moment to the exchange students in our district and with the help of everyones connections we spread the word to over eight thousand people. Shout out to Josh for his great idea and to everyone who tok part in the silence!!
- Thank You**
The next week (the 15th) our group headed off to the Alps, 5 cars in tow all headed to our Austria destination : the Richtars + me, Viteks family (2nd host), Adams family (3rd host), Jindras family, and Aničkas family. FANTASTIC!! Veronika and Hanka were also headed to the same glacier but were in a different lodge and we only bumped into them a few times.. but I will write a seperate blog for the Alps.. It was one heck of a week!!
It was another month of busy weekends :) The weekend after the Alps there was another Ball, and despite the fact that I didnt attend this one (previously made plans with Vanessa) there were some mighty good stories that surfaced.
... And so it was march...

January...
So we went to Krasne pole for new years - a small town of about 90,000 10 minutes outside Poruba, we had tons of Fun. The guys were all there (Jindra, Vítek, Adam, Michal) and met tons of new people. We all had tons of fun dancing, chatting and banging pots and pans at the stoke of 00:00 !! Woohoo!! Happy New Year One and ALL!!
So this month I moved to Host Family three- Adams Family, and have been spending bundles of time with him and Michal. Adams Family is really great and consists of mom, dad, adam, sister (10) and sister (26) who doesnt live at home.. they are all really laid back, really nice, serene, and quite natural. Its been fantastic!! The family sticks largely to a vegetarian diet, only really cooking any kind of meat for the main meal on weekends, which is super!!! Its been really nice to have vegetables again. Oh! and they have lots of milk and dairy!!! I have still yet to see a czech actually drink a glass of milk, but this family has cereal (!!!) which is def not the norm. All and all.. a super family and one that was very easy to adjust to. Content :)
Ive been going through books like a crazy! Its been great to catch up on my reading and have for sure taken advantage of the quiet moments to snatch a book and read a chapter or two. It has really been helping fill in the swiss cheese that is now my Vocabulary.. honestly I still speak a lot of English with my friends and family.. but its not first language english and Ive noticed myself fitting into my surrroundings a little too much. Friends have also recently discovered that I am in fact good at English and am a useful tool when it comes to helping them with their English class struggles :) Glad to be of service !!!
So there was a ball on the 24th.. a traditional, classic.... dancing..... ball. I, not being the classically trained dancer that they ALL are, was jsut a tad nervous about my skills.. So despite being sick for a week with jsut a little cold.. I had adam teach me the waltz. So that at least I had one dance under my belt.. It was actually great! Most of my friends were all there and I was able to meet a lot of Romans friends too. My dance skills won no prizes.. but after the first 2 hours of classical dances it turned into a disco anyway! Oh My Goodness!!! There was a raffel that the classes put together.. every clas had to donate an item for the big draw, and one of the classes submitted a rabbit. A LIVE RABBIT!!! Hopping around in its little cage :) This really petite girl (who bought a rediculous amount of tickets) ended up with the little thumper. She walked on up, in her cute dress and sky high heels, and claimed her prize! It was really funny! So besides the really sore feet and the theft of adam + michals coat from the coat check.... it was a fantastic evening!
OO This really was a good month of weekends.. The weekend after the ball, was an extended one and my friends and I made sure to take advantage of the extra day! Jarka, Hanka, Veronika, Vítek and I went to a local bands concert one night!! Really great, they did some classic rock covers and then a few of there own songs.. in english.. SUPER! I went out with Roman a few times, walking around town and watching this British show.. i dont know apparently its really popular over here.. it was really funny, not stupid run into a brick wall kind of funny but good wit was tossed around. (this is where I should write the name of this terribly witty english show.. but I cant remember.. I´ll look into it...) Then came sunday (feb 1st).. A mere 3 days before my 19th.. and i got sick.
.... to be continued....
